Description:
The Missouri Compromise established the 36-30 line between free and slave states and helped maintain balance between the North and South before the Civil War. There was an equal number of free and slave states, and Missouri becoming a state would raise lots of tension. Many fixes like this were made to try to keep the South in the Union, but eventually this led to the Civil War.
