Description:

The battle of Verdun was the single longest battle of WW1. It started on the 21st of February 1916 and ended on December 16th the same year. The French repelled a major German offensive on the historic fortress town of Verdun which the French felt honor bound to protect, resulting in huge amounts of casualties on either side (550,000 on the French side, and 434, 000 on the German side).
