Bronte married Arthur Bell Nicholls at age 38, but died on 31 March 1855. Nicholls had been Bronte's father's curate. Among her literary companions is Elizabeth Gaskell.
Charlotte is the fourth of six children. She lost her mother went she was young and then lost her eldest sister Elizabeth, leaving her with two younger sisters (authors Anne and Emily) and a younger brother Patrick. She outlived them all.
