jan 29, 1850 - The Compromise of 1850
Description:

This compromise was intended to defuse the tensions which were building between pro-slavery and antislavery political leaders.
Important People: Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, John C. Calhoun, and Stephen Douglas
Led to War: Because of the building tensions, Henry Clay actually tried to prevent the Civil War. Although his compromise worked for a period of time, eventually, hatred flamed up as quick as it died down.
