apr 9, 1965 - Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
Description:
This act was passed as part of Lyndon Johnson's "War on Poverty". The original goal of the law, which remains today, was to improve educational equity for students from lower-income families by providing federal funds to school districts serving poor students. (The ABC's of ESEA.)
Title 1 and bilingual education programs came as a result of this act.
