dec 29, 1845 - Texas Joins the Union
Description:
Texas broke away from Mexico, becoming the independent Lone Star Republic as a result of the signing of the Treaty of Velasco after Mexico's defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto. Soon after, Texas asked to join the United States due to constant invasion from Mexico and a lack of money.
The South wanted to annex Texas because it would become a slave state, but the North did not. Eventually, America decided to annex the state, and this almost immediately made Mexico declare war on America over where Texas' border was.
