jun 15, 1836 - Arkansas Joins the Union
Description:
Also prior part of the Louisiana Purchase, Arkansas had a lot of slaves and cotton farms. After rapid growth in the 1830s. Arkansas had enough of a population to enter into statehood. Similar to the other states, if Arkansas was entered as a slave state, a free state would need to be added to keep the balance in Congress. Arkansas and Michigan applied for statehood at the same time, so Michigan became a free state to fill the hole and balance the scale.
