may 10, 1773 - The Tea Act

Description:

The Tea Act was was passed in 1773 to reduce the amount and price of illegal tea being smuggled into the colonies. It was made to force the colonists to buy only British tea. It was to help the East India Company which was close to collapse because of colonial protests against British goods. The colonists hated the Act and protested in many ways, including the Boston Tea Party, where a group of colonists dumped a shipment of tea into Boston Harbor. This act enraged the colonies and made them hate Britain even more for choosing to protect the East India Company over it’s own colonies.
