jan 2, 1763 - Proclamation of 1763

Description:

The Proclamation of 1763 came after the revolution led by an Ottawa chief named Pontiac; It was a law designed to stop colonial expansion west in order to prevent more revolts and violence between the colonies and Indians. It stated that all land west of the Appalachian mountains was off limits for settlers, and forbid all deals and agreements between the colonists and indians, unless it was carried out by Britain itself. This law was very unpopular and gained much resentment from the colonists as they felt that they fought for that land themselves, and they began to protest and defy the proclamation, which led to more dissent and colonial hatred towards Britain which helped speed up the Revolution.
