dec 26, 1998 - First GPU made, and AMD Athlon created
The first GPU (graphics proccesing unit) was made, designed to handle shaders, lighting, triangular clipping, and rendering to lighten the load of the CPU (central proccesing unit). It was here that many new achievements were made, like photo realistic images processed in real time, and virtual reality. One of the largest feats in CPU history was also made this year, with the AMD Athlon. It was able to reach 1000 MHz (1 GHz), which was a massive landmark to accomplish (this was important because the frequency of a microprocessor has a lot to do with how many commands it can process in any amount of time, like improving the speed of logic gates. Logic gates preform simple Algebra questions, such as - if it is raining outside, wear an umbrella). But with almost as much importance, it had massively helped a small, growing company like AMD. It would add future competition to both the CPU and GPU market.
