Slave Trade
Description:
Early slave trade was mainly implemented by the Portuguese. During the 15th century, African slaves were kidnapped and transported to Europe. However, by the 1600s, the Portuguese took African slaves to work on Portuguese owned sugar plantations off of the coast of Africa. The trade expanded across the Atlantic Ocean and by 1620, Brazil was a sugar producing colony that was mainly inhabited by African slaves. The Portuguese slave trade was the beginning of slave trade and labor from Africa.
