At Waterloo in Belgium, Napoleon met a combined force of British troops commanded by the Duke of Wellington. Wellington's army crushed the French forces who were commanded by General Nye because Napoleon was absent from the battlefield due to illness. The defeat at Waterloo ended Napoleon's rule of France.
