jan 1, 1777 - January 1st, 1777 - Articles of Confederation
Description:
Description: This was the first constitution of the United States and its purpose was to declare the patriots’ fight against the British monarchy; however, the Articles of Confederation did seem to lean towards the federalist viewpoint, causing problems.
Causes: After the war, the states faced major debt and needed to figure out how they were going to divide power amongst everyone. This document ended up giving large and small states equal power.
Historical Impact: Because it did favor federalist ideals, it caused tension between differing beliefs and ultimately caused the rewriting of the national skeletal policies, which became the Constitution.
