may 14, 1607 - May 14th, 1607-The Founding of Jamestown

Description:

Description: A group of British colonizers sailed to the new world in hopes of expanding their empire. Near Chesapeake Bay, those that made it founded Jamestown, the first permanent British settlement in North America.
Causes: England was in a race to claim land against other European powers like the Spanish and the French. National growth factors such as wealth and power were in stake. Therefore, if the Brits could take over the North American area then, they were in a good position for having a strong global presence.
Historical Impact: Because the settlement of Jamestown was the first permanent British colonization in what is now the United States as well as successful, it set a trend of immigration towards the North American continent, filling ships with hopeful people who wanted to start anew.
