Description:
President Polk sent US representatives to the Mexican government to make an offer to buy California and New Mexico as well as settle territory claims in Texas. Polk offered $25-$30 million. Mexican government refused to meet with the representatives, due to that, Polk ordered the US army to move into the disputed territory. 16 Americans soldiers were killed by a Mexican force in the disputed territory south of the Nueces River.
