sep 6, 1555 - Peace of Augsburg

Description:

Brings an end to German Religious War until the 30 years war. "Cuius regio, eius religio" (who's the land, his the religion). It establishes that the various princes of the Holy Roman Empire have the right to decide what their local religion is. This results in significant population migration as a result people moving to states where their religion is the official state religion. The prince's new rights to religious freedom resulted religious divisions becoming prominent between Protestants and Catholics. Important to note is that neither the papacy nor the Emperor are present at the Treaty of Augsburg which highlights the weakness and emptiness of Charles V's rule.
