Spanish Armada 1588
English warships commanded by the famous explorer, Francis Drake, “outmaneuvered” the Spanish Armada, defeating them in 1588 when Philip II sent 130 ships with 19,000 men over to the English Channel. This battle was so famous not only because of how outnumbered the english were, but because Queen Elizabeth went to the battle grounds and said that she was willing to live or die along with her soldiers in the risky battle.
