jan 1, 1529 - Reformation Parliament
In 1527, Henry VIII asked the pope if he could end his marriage to Catherine of Aragon, and the pope refused. Church law wouldn’t allow a divorce. So, in 1529, Henry called Parliament to pass a set of laws that ended the pope’s power in England. This created the Reformation Parliament so that he could settle his divorce with Catherine without the pope getting in the way.
