jan 1, 1434 - Cosimo de Medici 1434

Description:

Cosimo de Medici won control of Florence’s government in 1434, but did not go into office himself. Instead, as the wealthiest European, he bribed members of the government to make decisions according to his will by giving them loans. He was dictator of Florence from then to the day he died, in 1464. Proceeding him was his grandson Lorenzo de Medici, known as Lorenzo the Magnificent. He also ruled as dictator, but disguised his rule by keeping up the appearance of an elected government.
