Description:
Congress passed the Missouri Compromise prohibiting slavery in the unorganized territory north of 36.5° latitude and west of the Mississippi River, except within the boundaries of the proposed state of Missouri. Changed course of the history of settlement and migration, as slave owners would not move into the locations disallowing slavery.
