apr 22, 1974 - Water Gate scandal (Richard Nixon)

Description:

On June 17, 1972 several burglars were caught in the office of the Democratic National Committee, located in the Watergate complex in Washington. The Burglars were found out to be directly tied to Richard Nixon's re-election campaign. They were caught stealing  top secret documents and bugging the phones. The wiretaps on the phones failed to work so five more people were sent back to the Watergate complex to finish the job. They too ended up getting caught breaking into the office. In August 1972, Richard Nixon came out to the press and swore that he had nothing to do with the break ins. Surprisingly America believed him and he was voted in for his second term. In 1974 Richard Nixon tried to cover up the incident but there was to much evidence to hide. On April 1974, Nixon released the tapes that should his connection to the Burglaries. On April 22, 1974 President Richard Nixon resigned from office.
