dec 24, 1814 - Treaty of Ghent

Description:

This treaty was a between the US and Britain and it officially ended the war of 1812 signed by both parties in Ghent in the Netherlands. The treaty stated that all conquered land would be returned to the original country and a boundary would be set between Canada and the US. This event was crucial at the time for both the US and Britain because both countries could not afford to go on any longer in the war due to the US being weaker than Britain and Britain recovering from war with Napoleon. The treaty ended the war in an effective stalemate with no gains on either side.
