Description:
In this diplomatic coup, John Quincy Adams signed a treated with Spain which put the US in possession of Florida. This came at no cost to the US except the cost of claims against Spain from US citizens. This was an important treaty because it ended disputed between the US and Spain over the Florida territory, it decreased the power of Spain in North America, and it expanded the US territory.
