sep 27, 1540 - Founding of the Jesuits
Ignatius Loyola was a reformer during the renaissance and he founded the Jesuits. The Jesuits were one of the major spearheads of the counter-reformation. The work done by Ignatius Loyola was seen as an important counter to Martin Luther and John Calvin. The goals of the Society of Jesus were to educate and train priests, convert non-Christians to Catholicism, and stop the spread of protestantism. Again, this was important because the Jesuits helped in the counter-reformation.
