This was a strike. After the workers of the railroad received a 7 cent wage cut, 400,000 workers went on strike. American railroads acted fast and replaced 3/4 of the workers after they left. The judge of the town banned strike activities and the strikers came back to work on a settled 5 cent wage cut.
