Description:
Due to the success of Sputnik-1, USSR shortly after sent Sputnik-2 up into space with a living dog located inside of the device. This was the first animal sent into space which was a big accomplishment from the USSR which demonstrates how advanced they were.
This achievement from the USSR relates to the concept, detente because an arms race between the USSR and U.S. was occurring.
