jan 1, 1951 - UK´s ten National Parks are established
Description:
1. They are independent bodies funded by central government to:
· Conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage.
·Promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of national parks by the public.
2. There are currently thirteen national parks in England and Wales.
3. An estimated 110 million people visit the national parks of England and Wales each year
4. The first ten national parks were designated as such in the 1950s under the Act in mostly poor-quality agricultural upland.
5. Much of the land was still owned by individual landowners, often private estates, but there was also property owned by public bodies such as the Crown, or charities which allow and encourage access such as the National Trust. Accessibility from the cities was also considered important.
This helped the movement because it was demonstrated that it was necessary to create areas for animals and plants where they could live in freedom and without the intervention of the human being
