mar 15, 12 BC - Caesar steps down as Princeps
Senate elects Octavian as Caesar's successor
Old and almost infirm, Caesar chooses to abdicate his powers as Princeps and return to civilian life. This surrender of power becomes a symbolic tradition for his successors - and always on the 15th of March, on the day the Gods spared Caesar's life.
