Description:
The separation of Protestant Christian sects from the Roman Catholic Church leads to a great diversity in post-1500 Christian sacred music.
The Council of Trent (1545-1563) issued general recommendations in favor of a pure vocal style that would respect the integrity of the sacred texts, reject secular influences (like the incorporation of secular cantus firmi), avoid obfuscating polyphony, etc.
