Description:
The Sugar Act was an act passed by Parliament on April 5, 1764. This act required all colonists to pay a tax on molasses and sugar. King George III and Parliament also attempt to stop smuggling by lowering the taxes on molasses. This also meant that businesses that got their sugar and molasses from Britain had to pay the tax to receive these essentials. This caused many colonists to become enraged and start protesting.
