oct 5, 1789 - THE WOMEN'S MARCH
Description:
This event started out with just a couple women, but it ended up being one of the driving events that acted as the kindling for the fire that was the French Revolution. It all began when an angry mob of mothers and wives began to protest about the cost of bread and how they couldn't afford to feed their families, so they took it upon themselves to get armed with pitchforks and muskets and go marching for the royal palace of Versailles. While they marched, more and more people joined in their revolt until there were thousands of armed individuals charging towards Louis XVI and his family. Once they arrived, a short-lived battle broke out and a couple people died. However, the mob forced the royal family out of the palace of Versailles and escorted them back to Paris.
