nov 7, 1659 - Treaty of Pyrenees
This treaty marked the end of the French-Spanish Wars, compelling Spain to surrender extensive territories to France. After the Thirty Years' War, serious revolts in Catalonia and Portugal in 1640, and defeat by the French at Rocroi in 1643, the treaty left them with greatly reduced power. Trade with colonies had dropped 60 percent, and Spain had already declared bankruptcy four times. The treaty marked the end of Spain as a great power.
