jan 1, 1536 - John Calvin - Institutes of the Christian Religion
John Calvin published his formulation of Christian doctrine, the first work of systematic theology, which emphasized predestination. Calvin believed in the absolute sovereignty and omnipotence of God and the total weakness of human beings, some of which God had elected to save and none of which had any influence on their salvation. This brought about the Protestant Work Ethic, which stressed the importance of hard work and moral behavior which would prove that you were one of the elect.
