Even though there was the Great Depression, divorce rates did decrease, for it too expensive to own two houses. However, marriages were delayed as well. There was rarely any public display of affection. Couples would just show affection by holding hands. Married couples wouldn't sleep together in the same bed, for it was believed to be unsanitary.
