Robert la Salle started his exploration in 1685 and finished it in 1687. He was in search for the Mississippi River but got lost while looking for it. He made the Fort St. Louis settlement. He claimed Texas for the French for 2 years. He was also murdered by his own crew. He made the Spanish paranoid and got them serious about settling Tx.
