jul 27, 1953 - The end of the Korean War
July 27, 1953 marks the beginning of the cease fire at the 39th parallel in Korea. Although the Korean War was short, nearly 5 million people died. Representatives from neutral countries, who gathered to decide the fate of the POWs, decided that the POWs could choose which side of the 38th parallel to be on. The 38th parallel became the border that separates North and South Korea.
