mar 29, 1820 - Supervision of Slave Vessels

Description:

British naval vessels are allowed to search suspected slave ships in 1820. However, there were many loopholes, hence that could not end the trade. Furthermore, the economies of Brazil and Cuba, which were primarily dependent on slave labor, continued expanding rapidly . Besides, a legislation passed in the British parliament stipulated that British naval ships could not search suspected slave ships without permission from their respective countries, which was a hindrance in the fight against the trade. Nevertheless, the British and the United States implement more punitive laws regarding the trade, including deploying naval ships in the West-African coast.(Image:http://blackhistory.com/content/61583/the-transatlantic-slave-trade)
