A group of countries led by the US in order to solidify their spheres of influence and maintain mutual protection. This also shielded them from possible attacks from the Soviet Union. Countries include Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
