sep 5, 1856 - Florence Nightingale Makes Her Mark

Description:

Her time spent in Turkey, and the seemingly impossible success that she encountered with her improvements were used as standards of care. (Selanders) It was completely necessary to regularly clean and maintain wounds with new dressings. Soap and regular bathing, as well as clean wards were mandatory to prevent the growth of disease. Nightingale set the standard for clean clothes and adequate food being provided. Nightingale was so precise as to record everything she had done at the Barrack hospital, that “a Royal Commission was established, which based its findings on the statistical data and analysis provided by Nightingale. The result was marked reform in the military medical and purveyance systems.” (Selanders)
