jan 1, 1765 - The Stamp Act
In 1765, the Stamp Act occurred. It became an act proceeding the French and Indian War. Even though the British had won the war, they were in a extreme amount of debt. As a way to get their money back, the British taxed the colonists for every single piece of paper they used. The colonists were upset and angry because they had no representatives for the taxes they received. They protested until the British would repeal the Stamp Act. In 1766 they repealed the Stamp Act giving the colonists more independence.
