The New Horizons is an interplanetary space probe that is part of NASA’s New Frontiers program who mission was to make a flyby of Pluto. The spacecraft was launched in 2006 at the Air Force base in Cape Canaveral reaching the orbit exit speed of 16.26 kilometers a second. New Horizons made a brief flyby of Jupiter in order to make sure the instruments were working, then went into hibernation in order to save on its battery. On July 14th 2015 the spacecraft finally made it to Pluto completing its mission, and becoming the first spacecraft to ever explore the dwarf planet.
