oct 1, 1949 - Communist revolution in China
Description:
A civil war had been taking place in China since the 1920s, and since during the 2 world wars, attention had been elsewhere, the communists under Mao Zedong had been making great progress. In 1949, Mao took charge of China, and a year later the Soviet Union and China signed the Treaty of Friendship, Alliance and Mutual Assistance. This changed the balance of power between East and West; the fear of communist expansion proliferated.
