Description:
The Fugitive Slave Act was an act that (added to the original Fugitive Salve Acts) not only sent slaves back to their owners, whether they were in a free state or not, but also gave power to the government to proceed with hunting down these slaves to return them. The Fugitive Slave Act helped lead to the Civil War because it escalated the searching out of escaped slaves added more fuel to the free states’ fire to do something about the atrocious treatment of slaves, which resulted in the Civil War.
