Throughout 1932 and 1933, the anarchists had attempted many insurrections, however had been unsuccessful in each one of them. The insurrections included one in a Catalan mining town in 1932 that was supressed instantly, one in 1933 in Catalonia and other parts and was also put down quickly. The most notable insurrection was the Casas Viejas situation where some anarchists rose up to proclaim a libertarian society, and many were killed during this event. The anarchists were hardly effective during these insurrections, and with many of their militants arrested they were unable to perform more uprisings. The anarchists were not a significant group during this timespan.
