First Scientific discovery of an element. (Phosphorous)
In 1864 Newlands published his version of the periodic table and proposed the Law of Octaves.
Johann Dobreiner noticed the atomic weight of strontium fell between the atomic weights of calcium and barium, elements with similar properties to strontium.
After discoering the halogen triad Dobereiner he proposed that nature had triads and the middle elements properties were a average of the other two properties.
John Newlands wrote a paper that classified the 56 established elements into 11 groups based on similar physical properties.
First periodic table published.
Meyer made a periodic table.
Meyer created a extended table.
Mendeleev published his periodic table.
Meyer published his periodic table.
Mendeleev published the 13th (last copy) of "Principles of Chemistry"
Mendeleev came within one vote of being awarded the Nobel Prize for his work.
Lord Rayleigh discovered the gaseous element Argon.
William Ramsey suggested that argon should be placed in the periodic table. This element was placed in a group termed "zero" group due to the zero valency of the elements.
Ernest Rutherford published studies that led to the determination of nuclear charge. He demonstrated nuclear charge on a nucleus was proportional to the atomic weight of the particle.
A series of two papers proposed the atomic weight of an element was approximately equal to the charge of the atom.
Henry Moseley published the results of his "measurements of wavelengths of the x-ray spectral lines of a number of elements which showed that the ordering of the wavelengths of the x-ray emissions of the elements coincided with the ordering of the elements by atomic number." With more discoveries they learned that atomic weight was not as important as they thought.
Glenn Seaborg discovered all the transuranic elements from 94 to 102 and "He reconfigured the periodic table by placing the actinide series below the lanthanide series."
Seaborg was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work.
