USSR was given control of part of Berlin. This made a huge separation from east to west, and the USSR made sure to keep everything in their part of Germany (East Berlin)
-this prevented anything from going out but also from getting in
- this also prevented food and other forms of aid from getting in
-the west wanted to help, so they started missions to send over food, medicine, clothes, coal, etc to help the people without access to it.
