Estates elected on a local and regional level. 1st Estate: Clergy, called mostly Parish priests. 2nd Estate: Nobles, called mostly conservatives, but many liberals wanting radical change too. 3rd Estate: commoners, called lawyers and government officials. May 5th 1789, 1200 representatives gathered at Versailles. 300 for 1st and 2nd Estate, 600 for 3rd Estate.
