In 1851, the first community gym was opened in Boston by the YMCA. This gym set a precedent for many other community gyms to open and was a major turning point in the exercise world. This invention helped to bring attention to exercise and allowed it to become popular. It allowed all types of people to be able to access excercise equipment and introduced the concept of excercise to millions of people.
