1 ene 1700 año - Hospitals
Descripción:
The condition of hospitals changed significantly due to work of Florence Nightingale.
Before Nightingale hospitals were:
- Financed by charities and local councils to care
for the sick
- The elderly, sick, disabled and poor were
forced to work in workhouses
- Hospitals had a home atmosphere
- Parents/ Visitors helped the nurses provide
care for the sick
- Middle and upper classes could afford home
treatment by doctors
After Nightingale:
- Hospital cleanliness & organisation improved
- Hygiene improved due to the Germ Theory
- Nurses were better trained and given a more
central role in caring for patients and assisting
the doctors
- Specialist hospitals developed (such as asylums
for the mentally ill and fever houses)
- Infirmaries were set up for the poorest in
society (separate from workhouses)
