Just like in Italy, the northern countries of Europe experienced their own Renaissance, though to a smaller scale. The northern countries saw a rise in wood sculpting due to the works of two German sculptors, Veit Stoss, known for his delicate altarpieces and Tilman Riemenschneider, renowned for his reliefs and freestanding wood sculptures.
